Chicago Dog Recovering After Being Abandoned, Beaten In The Street

Abused Dog Recovering, Will Be Up For Adoption Soon

A Chicago dog who was abandoned in the street by her owner of some 10 years and viciously attacked by a group of neighborhood children with baseball bats and broomsticks is reportedly recovering in the care of a city shelter.

Isis, the Chicago Animal Care and Control's Commissioner Cherie Travis reports via Facebook, is making an "unbelievable recovery." Travis wrote that the dog will be up for adoption within the next few weeks and has begun "to trust people again."

After Isis was initially taken in by ACC, the agency was overwhelmed with calls from area residents who were interested in adopting or fostering the beautiful shepherd terrier mix. Because of the extent of the attack that the dog survived, however, she was not yet ready to be released.

The dog's former owner, Lashon Parks, was charged last month with animal cruelty and failure to comply with an animal owner's duties, both misdemeanors. Parks and her teenage son allegedly let their dog loose when a new apartment they were moving into in the city's East Garfield Park neighborhood did not allow tenants to keep pets.

David Dinger of the Chicago Anti-Cruelty Society pointed out to ABC Chicago last month that if animal owners can no longer keep their pets for whatever reason, his shelter and others throughout the metropolitan Chicago area are open door shelters which allow the pets the possibility of finding a new home. Chicago Pet Rescue also offers this list of resources for individuals considering giving up their pet.
