Chicago police fatally shot a man they say pulled a gun on them late Sunday on the city's West Side.
The shooting occurred around 11:50 p.m. in the 1500 block of South Kostner Avenue in the city's Lawndale neighborhood, the Chicago Tribune reports. Police arrived at the scene responding to a theft in progress call at a vacant building on the block.
According to the Chicago Sun-Times, police found the man inside and, while they were conducting a protective pat-down," the man allegedly pulled a handgun from out of the waistband of his pants. A struggle ensued and police officers shot the man.
The man, unidentified and in his 40s, was pronounced dead on the scene, according to CBS Chicago.
No police were injured in the incident and a weapon was recovered from the scene, ABC Chicago reports. The Independent Police Review Authority is investigating the shooting.
The shooting is the most recent of several police-involved shootings in Chicago in the last week. On Wednesday, an off-duty Chicago detective shot two individuals after intervening in a "disturbance" in the city's Lawndale neighborhood. Rekia Boyd, 22, died Thursday of a gunshot wound. Antonio Cross, 39 -- who was also shot by the detective -- was charged with misdemeanor aggravated assault in connection with the incident.
On Thursday, a Chicago police officer shot a man allegedly wielding a sawed-off shotgun on the city's Far South Side, the Tribune reported. On Friday, police shot a man in the 9300 block of South Vernon in the city's South Side Chatham neighborhood.
