Police Find $7 Million In Weed In Northwest Side Garage

Two Chicago men are facing felony marijuana possession charges after police found nearly 1,000 pounds of marijuana in a garage in the city's Northwest Side Portage Park neighborhood.

According to Fox Chicago, the men -- Joaquin Muneton, 39, and Manuel Mata, 37 -- were arrested Monday after narcotics officers executed a search warrant of a home in the 4400 block of North Melvina Avenue where Mata lives and found the drugs, which are estimated to be worth almost $7 million.

The marijuana was compressed inside a dozen cardboard boxes wrapped in green plastic, according to DNAinfo Chicago.

In addition to the drug charge, Mata was also charged with misdemeanor charge of having a gun without a valid Firearm Owner's Identification (FOID) card. The suspects were ordered held on $250,000 bond in court on Tuesday afternoon, the RedEye reports.
