Seven people were killed and at least 29 others were wounded in shootings over the first official weekend of summer in Chicago.
In the most recent homicide of the weekend, 18-year-old Eduardo Venagas was shot while standing on the sidewalk in the 3300 block of South Bell Avenue in the city's McKinley Park neighborhood at about 11:25 p.m. Sunday, according to DNAinfo Chicago.
The teen was taken to Stroger Hospital where he was pronounced dead just before midnight.
Earlier Sunday evening, 22-year-old Justin Jackson was hit while sitting inside a vehicle in the 1500 block of East 76th Place in the South Shore neighborhood around 9:20 p.m., ABC Chicago reports. Jackson was taken to an area hospital and pronounced dead at 10:06 p.m. Another man, 26, was wounded in the same shooting incident and was last listed in stable condition at Jackson Park Hospital.
On Saturday afternoon, three men were wounded in a shooting in the South Chicago neighborhood, one fatally, according to the Chicago Tribune.
Karl Austin, 20, was fatally shot in a drive-by shooting while sitting on a porch with friends across the street from his home around 4:30 p.m., DNAinfo reports. Two other men, ages 26 and 29, were wounded in the same shooting.
The weekend violence got off to a start Friday afternoon at 1:30 p.m. when 31-year-old Vincent Mayes was found dead in Garfield Park.
Meanwhile, on Friday evening, the Rev. Michael Pfleger of St. Sabina's Church led a march against violence attended by some 500 people (report embedded above).
