Origami Chip Clip Bag Folding Trick

No More Chip Clips: Origami Chip Bag Folding Trick

There's a reason we find ourselves eating a whole bag of chips in one sitting. It's not because we're gluttonous (couldn't be) or because of a bad gene, but because if we didn't eat the entire bag the chips would inevitably go stale. What a waste that would be!

Sure, we could use a chip clip, but can you ever find one when you need it? We never can, even when they do come in cute animal shapes.

But lucky (or unlucky) for you, there's a trick to stop you from eating those chips without the need for a clip, and it comes in the form of origami. We know what you're thinking: origami is hard, a lot harder than polishing off a bag of chips. And you're right. We're not going to sugar coat it. It is hard.

To get this origami trick down you have to give it a couple of (dozen) tries. Just remember, it's all in the folds. We took the time to master it, and have figured out the secrets to getting it right -- which we will happily share with you.

But if you don't have the patience to learn it, you could always go the uncouth and substantially easier way with the rolling chip seal like this video shows, though we find the origami version a tad more impressive.

Here's what you do:

First, eat some chips or pretzels. (We highly recommend Snyder's Jalapeno Pretzel Pieces.) Next, flatten out the top part of the bag. Fold in the two top corners -- having them meet in the middle -- and be sure to make nice long creases on the sides (this is crucial).

Next, fold over the top of the bag once, giving it a one-inch sized flap. Fold 3-4 more iterations. Be sure that the opening flap of the bag is well tucked away and out of site. If not, the whole thing will unravel in the end. Now comes the good/tricky part: with your thumbs tucked into the corner flaps, fold the flaps over the top.

If you got it on your first go, enjoy your handywork. If not, try again. Trust us, you will eventually figure it out.
