Christian Organization To Give Away Two Qurans For Every One Burned

The Massachusetts Bible Society will give away two copies of the Quran for every one that Rev. Terry Jones and his congregation burn on Sep. 11.

Jones, pastor of the Dove World Outreach Center in Gainesville, Fla., has said that he and his congregation will commemorate the Sep. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks by burning copies of the Islamic holy book.

In response, MassBible, which historically gives away Bibles, has promised to donate Qurans to prisons, hospitals, shelters, and "any place where there are Muslims without access to their sacred text."

In a press release, MassBible wrote, "As people of the Book, we are joined to Islam and Judaism in a special way and as an organization that has sought to put that Book into people's hands for 201 years, we cannot stand idly by while the sacred text of a sister religion is burned as our beloved Bibles once were."

The organization said that in denouncing Jones' act, it hopes to dispel the notion that Jones' position represents that of all Christians.
