Chuck Schumer: Mitt Romney 'Has To Hit It Out Of The Park' In First Presidential Debate (VIDEO)

Chuck Schumer: First Debate Is Probably Romney's 'Last Chance'

During The Huffington Post's most recent trip to the famed "Power Breakfast" at Manhattan's Loews Regency Hotel, Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) shared his thoughts on the upcoming presidential debate in Denver between President Barack Obama and Mitt Romney.

"What I expect from tomorrow night's debate is Romney has to hit it out of the park," Schumer said. He then offered a stark warning for the GOP nominee: "This is probably his last chance, and I bet on Obama."

HuffPost also asked Schumer about a recent New York Times article indicating that Senate leaders are planning to use a post-election congressional session to avert the looming "fiscal cliff." The story stated that as a first step in the process, "Senators would come to an agreement on a deficit reduction target -- likely to be around $4 trillion over 10 years -- to be reached through revenue raised by an overhaul of the tax code, savings from changes to social programs like Medicare and Social Security, and cuts to federal programs."

When asked which federal programs might be subject to cuts, Schumer declined to comment.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) also made an appearance at the New York hotspot, but he refused to speak with us.
