Climate Change On 'The Point' By The Young Turks

A Real Conversation About Climate Change

As the Senior Science Correspondent for The Huffington Post, I'm occasionally asked to appear on internet and television shows representing a scientific point of view. This past week, I was invited to host a special episode of "The Point," presented by "The Young Turks." The focus of the episode was global climate change, and we wanted to do something neither major political party seems willing or able to do during this heated election season: talk frankly about the science behind Earth's changing climate.

I was joined by climatologist and oceanographer Bill Patzert of NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory, Tammy Bang Luu, Associate Director of the Labor/Community Strategy Center, and Andrea Robinson, the founder and director of Arc Sustainability. We responded to three points made by leading scientists and journalists. Bill McKibben (author and founder of 350.org) spoke about the effect that a rise in global temperatures by two degrees Celsius will have on the planet. Nobel Prize winner Christopher Field of Stanford University talked about adaptation and mitigation efforts we can and should be making right now. And last, science historian Naomi Oreskes of the University of California, San Diego, weighed in on the source of the anti-science opposition to climate change.

Check out this special episode in the video below, and don't forget to leave your thoughts in the comments section. Come on, talk nerdy to me!
