WASHINGTON ― Former FBI director James Comey confirmed to the Senate Intelligence Committee that the FBI was investigating former national security adviser Michael Flynn on suspicion of lying to FBI agents.

Sen. Tom Cotton (R-Ark.) asked Comey whether he or any FBI agent thought that Flynn “attempted to deceive you or made false statements to an FBI agent.”

After saying, “I don’t want to go too far,” Comey confirmed, “That was the subject of the criminal inquiry.”

Comey added that he could not say in an open setting whether the FBI was close to wrapping up the investigation into Flynn. Comey is to continue testifying to the committee in closed session this afternoon.
