A boy in Purcell, Oklahoma, has new respect for the long arm of the law, after a police officer there went above and beyond the call of duty, and personally replaced the 13-year-old's stolen bike.
JJ Weaver told KFOR a thief stole the bike right off his front porch recently, a heinous crime which robbed Weaver both of his primary means of transportation and "goofing off."
Weaver called police to report the bike stolen, and Purcell Police Officer John Idlett responded. After making note of the case's details, Idless promised to keep an eye out for the stolen property, then returned the next day with a surprise: a brand new bike!
"He wanted to get me a better bike," Weaver recalled to the station, "and I told him I was thankful for what I had. Thank you for getting that."
A post on the City of Purcell's Facebook page commending Idlett's actions is full of positive responses.
"John and his wife are wonderful people," reads one comment. "They have given us things another family needed more than once. He is an example of who we should all seek within ourselves. Kudos!"
His generous act inducts Idlett into the ranks of officers who go above and beyond the call of duty, like California cop Michael Kohr who bought a replacement bicycle for a little girl after her Minnie Mouse bike was stolen last year.
