The latest architectural death sentence was handed out in Detroit this week, as a demolition permit was issued for the historic -- but blighted -- Hotel Charlevoix behind the Fox Theatre.

A long, 108-year story short, the Charlevoix was built in 1905 by architect William S. Joy. While she may not look like much, this empty eyesore just so happens to be one of the city's oldest surviving hotels. You can get the lowdown on its history here.
