David Frum: Why Romney Lost

“Romney did not lose just because he had a bad campaign organization,” said David Frum on a segment for HuffPost Live. “Not because of the storm certainly. And not because he was a flawed candidate.”

In his newest book, ‘Why Romney Lost And What The Gop Can Do About It,’ Frum analyzes the influences that shaped Romney’s 2012 campaign strategy. He joined host James Poulos to discuss where Romney lost his way, and how the GOP must evolve to win back American voters.

“Romney lost because the Republican party has, over a long period of cycles, drifted away from the American middle class, which was its historic base,” Frum assessed. “It subscribed to an ideology, to a set of ideas, to a set of claims, that were off-putting to large numbers of people. It’s not about demographics. It’s about economics. It’s about a message that works for people who represent all of America.”
