David Villa Broken Leg: Barcelona Striker Suffers Injury During Club World Cup (VIDEO)

Barcelona Striker Suffers Broken Leg During Club World Cup

After not being selected for the Barcelona squad during Saturday's el Clasico win over Real Madrid, the transfer rumors swirling around striker David Villa only intensified. Both Villa and Barcelona manager Pep Guardiola spoke out to quash the talk that the Catalan club had made the Spanish international available to the likes of Chelsea or Liverpool.

A dramatic leg injury suffered during Barcelona's 4-0 triumph over Al Saad in the semifinal of the Club World Cup should put a halt to those rumors. At least, until Villa's rehabilitation is complete. In the 39th minute of the match, Villa was running onto a pass when his left leg buckled beneath him. Replays show his tibia snapping.

WARNING: Video is graphic.

"The injury to David Villa has saddened all of us, it's a big blow to the team, Guardiola said after the win. "I hope he recovers as quickly as possible"

According to Goal.com, Villa faces surgery and a recovery period of four or five months.
Barcelona advances to the final against Santos, who defeated Kashiwa Reysol in the other semi. The final will take place on Sunday in Yokohama.
