Michelle Bachmann, the Tea Party congresswoman, thinks we're living in the Biblical End Times. Rapture is right around the corner from DuPont Circle. Though the Minnesota Republican believes God is still speaking - directly to her about running for higher office - she's mistaken the End Times for the Tea Party times. You can understand the confusion. Both look very ugly.

What is Bachmann's evidence for the coming of the end of the world as we know it - something she applauds and believes we should hasten? President Obama now openly supports al Qaeda, according to Bachmann (which is odd considering how the president keeps launching military actions to cripple their leadership). But Bachmann has never let facts get in her way of forming a strong opinion.

She and her Tea Party colleagues have this month forced the closure of the federal government by demanding that the Affordable Care Act, known these days as Obamacare, be abolished. And what have Christian leaders said in response?

As Christians and citizens, we are appalled that elected officials are pursuing an extreme ideological agenda at the expense of the working poor and vulnerable families. We especially challenge those Members of Congress who call themselves pro-life to cease their political posturing on Capitol Hill. Shutting down the government in a futile effort to defund or delay the Affordable Care Act will hurt low-income pregnant women and infants who receive vital nutrition support. The Special Supplemental Program for Women, Infants and Children (WIC) will receive no additional funds during the shutdown. There is nothing "pro-life" or Christian about taking food away from pregnant women and babies. It is hypocritical and shameful for those who tout their commitment to family values to show such callous indifference.

It will certainly feel like the End Times for millions if the shutdown is allowed to continue and the U.S. Government is forced to default next week.

"The devastation to the United States would be so severe that it would take decades to recover from the Depression caused by a default and the attendant dumping of trillions of dollars of U.S. Treasury securities on the global financial markets," writes Rafferty Capital Markets banking analyst Dick Bove, according to NBC News. Think about the Great Depression and you start to get the idea how bad life will be in the United States and across the globe. And all of this is being done on purpose with the goal of taking health care away from over 30 million Americans.
