Michigan pundits may be scrambling to name the state's possible picks for an emergency financial manager in Detroit, but that speculation has done little to quell the ongoing campaign for the city's next mayor.
Former Detroit Medical Center chief Mike Duggan recently made his official entry into the race, and an assortment of mayoral hopefuls are now shooting from the hip about EFMs and Gov. Rick Snyder's declaration of a "financial emergency" in Detroit.
Although a recent poll may suggest one candidate has gained a comfortable lead, the important dates in the mayor's race are still distant points in the horizon. The primary election, which will determine the final two contenders, isn't slated until Aug. 6, and the general election won't take place until Nov. 5, well after Halloween.
Still, it's never too early to start familiarizing yourself with the candidates. To help get you better acquainted with the folks who are now making the hike out onto the campaign trail, we've assembled a slideshow of current candidates and prospective contenders.
