DIY Botox Draws Strong Warnings From Doctors (VIDEO)

WATCH: Doctors Warn Against DIY Botox Treatments

Just because you can do it yourself, doesn't mean you should.

Doctors are warning against the dangers of 'Do-It-Yourself Botox' treatments, reports MSNBC.

"For a patient to buy a kit ... and just think that if there's an instruction sheet that they can use to inject the muscles of the face for facial expression, it's a catastrophe waiting to happen," Dr. Tracy Favreau, a dermatologist at Nova Southeastern University told MSNBC.

According to Favreau, many of the kits comes from the developing world or a bootleg Botox lab in Arizona. She warned of "horrible results almost killing people."

The low costs of some DIY kits can seem appealing, but you could end up paying more in the long run to fix the results one doctor told CBS.

Some women have gone to even stranger lengths in the quest for a younger looking face.

A 63-year-old Chicago woman died after injecting hot beef fat into her face around her mouth and chin, a procedure she had done multiple times before. Later, it was discovered that the woman died from a severe abdominal inflammation, not the facial injections.

According to MSNBC, any Botox that sells for less than $9 per unit should be a red flag that it's not the real thing. Doctors charge an average of $15 per unit and the DIY kit they purchased online for $152, cost less than $2 per unit.

The kit also came with instructions and a disclaimer that said, "we do not suggest you do this yourself, but we do realize you have the right."
