Dominic Monaghan's love of animals shines through with his nature series "Wild Things with Dominic Monaghan." He talked about the dangers of filming the show on "Jimmy Kimmel Live," and why he thinks the risk are worth taking.
"The more you fly the more you risk your chance of being in a plane crash," he said. "The more I handle a snake, the more chance I have of getting bitten by that snake. But I’m willing to give myself over to nature if that’s the case to send that message across -- that these animals are important and amazing."
Steve Irwin became a world famous crusader for animals, and he faced the same kinds of dangers that Monaghan is facing now on "Wild Things." In 2006, Irwin died after getting pierced by a sting ray barb. His death actually served as some of the inspiration for Monaghan's foray into that type of television.
"When Steve Irwin died, I felt this is the time to create the nature show I talked about making," Monaghan said. "Life is dangerous, yet we still get out of bed."
The season finale of "Wild Things with Dominic Monaghan" airs Tuesday, March 12 at 10 p.m. ET on BBC America. Catch "Jimmy Kimmel Live" every weeknight at 11:35 p.m. EST on ABC.
