Donald Trump took former President Ronald Reagan’s slogan “Make America Great Again” for his own campaign. But his policies and demeanor are starkly different from the great communicator’s.

Commentators have noted that the presumptive GOP presidential candidate shares a background in the entertainment business with Reagan, who was also initially regarded as a political outsider.

But Trump’s negative campaigning and the fact that even GOP members can’t escape his name-calling means he’ll never be like Reagan ― who believed “thou shalt not speak ill of another Republican.”

Reagan supported legislation that granted amnesty to millions of undocumented immigrants in 1986. Trump, meanwhile, plans to deploy a “deportation force,” build a wall on the United States’ border with Mexico and ban Muslims from entering the U.S.

Editor’s note: Donald Trump regularly incites political violence and is a serial liar, rampant xenophobe, racist, misogynist and birther who has repeatedly pledged to ban all Muslims ― 1.6 billion members of an entire religion ― from entering the U.S.
