Arizona State Treasurer and former Cold Stone Creamery CEO Doug Ducey (R) defeated former Arizona Board of Regents Fred Duval (D) in the race to succeed Gov. Jan Brewer (R).

Ducey, who moved on from the August primary in which he bested a crowded field of candidates, received backing from a spectrum of tea party-aligned and establishment Republican groups.

He received support in the primary from former vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin and Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) as well as the polarizing Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio.
