Drew Barrymore may have begun wearing makeup at a young age, but she says she will not allow her daughter to do the same.

Barrymore is one of the best-known child actresses of the past 30 years, having starred in "E.T." and "Firestarter" at 7 and 9 years old, respectively. But she isn't looking to build the same path for her own daughter anytime soon.

Currently 4 months old, Barrymore's daughter Olive will not wear makeup until her teens, the actress stated.

"Kids shouldn't wear makeup. I strongly feel that way," she told Us Weekly. "You should be a kid for as long as possible. I think when you start getting in your teens, then all bets are off, and you should just play, play, play. And figure out what kind of woman you want to be -- the training wheels are off. So kids in makeup, no. Starting in your teen years, absolutely go for it, and start to discover who you are."

Barrymore also told Harper's Bazaar that she expressly does not want her daughter to be involved with showbiz.

"I know she didn't sign up for that," Barrymore said, referring to her daughter having been born already in the public spotlight. "I had such an exposed childhood. I appreciate my journey, but I don't want that for my kid. Not any of it. It has nothing to do with whether I liked my childhood. I really did. But as a parent, that isn't the childhood that I'd provide."

Barrymore, who recently launched a cosmetics line for Walmart and last year starred in the movie "Big Miracle," told Us Weekly that "happiness is the best makeup."
