Eliot Spitzer Ends Current TV Show

Eliot Spitzer Says Goodbye

Former New York Gov. Eliot Spitzer announced he is ending his Current TV show, the New York Times reported on Sunday.

The decision comes just a few days after Current TV founders Al Gore and Joel Hyatt sold the network to Al Jazeera. The Qatar-based news network plans to dissolve Current TV's programming and launch Al Jazeera America based in New York. Comedian John Fugelsang will take over Spitzer's time slot.

Spitzer, who hosted the 8:00 p.m. show "Viewpoint," took over the time slot after former Current TV host Keith Olbermann was abruptly fired from the network. Olbermann left Current TV in what is now becoming his typical stormy fashion (he left amidst testy clashes with network management while a host at MSNBC). He sued the network for breach of contract. A nasty legal battle ensued, as Current TV countersued Olbermann.

Last month, Spitzer told FishBowl NY that he was having a great time hosting his 8:00 p.m. show, but was frank about Current TV's struggling viewership. "Nobody's watching, but I'm having a great time," he said.
