Elon Musk Is Betraying Progressives For Profit

It’s clear that Musk is willing to work with President Trump for the sole purpose of thickening his wallet.

If you are a committed liberal or progressive, you must be shaking your head over the fact that Elon Musk, the former billionaire Hillary Clinton endorser, recently joined the Trump administration as part of Trump’s business advisory council.

You are also shaking your head every time Trump lashes out at principled CEOs who have left the council because of his recent far-right policy proposals. Of course, Musk, a political chameleon, won’t ever be one of them. “I believe this is doing good, so will remain on council & keep at it,” he said on Twitter.

Yes, this is the same Musk that raised big money for Hillary Clinton in California to defeat Donald Trump. According to Bloomberg, Musk teamed up with Facebook’s Sheryl Sandberg, Deamworks Steven Spielberg and Leo DiCaprio to make California Hillary’s number one fundraising state. Yet, somehow he has switched teams and joined right up with the Trump Administration.

It seems as if Musk cares more about making money than being an ideological progressive entrepreneur.

I lean to the right pretty hard, yet I share the left’s disdain for the elites who are only in politics for the money. I dislike the ruling class in America that thinks they can fool the American people. Musk seems to fall squarely into the category of hypocritical billionaire elitists who think that progressives will not get mad for selling out to the political powers at bay — in his case, for a few more SpaceX launches, a carbon tax that will help him sell more Tesla cars, and more subsidies for his company SolarCity that has sold overpriced solar panels to many middle and low income Americans.

Even some of Musk’s fans who love his electric Tesla cars are angry with him for staying on with team Trump and they are protesting with their checkbooks. According to CNBC, “Electric car blog Electrek reports that at least a few people have said they are canceling their orders for the yet-to-be-released car over Elon Musk’s collaboration with the administration of President Donald Trump.” Although committed liberals and progressives are boycotting Musk’s new Tesla cars, he makes so much money off the federal government with Tesla that he can afford to lose a few sales.

If that’s not bad enough, Musk is pushing the Trump Administration to impose a carbon tax — not because he cares about the environment, but because the crusade against “climate change” will help him sell more electric cars. According to Bloomberg, “A senior White House official said Musk floated the idea of a carbon tax at the meeting but got little or no support among the executives at the White House, signaling that Trump’s conservative political orbit remains tepid on the issue.” Additionally, Musk supported Trump’s big oil pick for Secretary of State, Rex Tillerson, because Tillerson may be in favor of a carbon tax too.

When push comes to shove, it’s clear that Musk is willing to work with President Donald Trump for the sole purpose of thickening his wallet. He is a YUGE hypocrite for supporting Hillary Clinton for President, and then turning around to criticize progressive CEOs for quitting the Administration over the recent anti-immigration executive order.

One thing that seems to unify both the right and the left are these establishment figures who claim to be governed by principle when the only thing they really seem to care about is getting close to politicians to make more cash. And that’s exactly what Musk is: an unprincipled crony capitalist that both sides of the aisle should disown.
