Emil Lawrence Joins San Francisco Mayor Race: Taxi Driver Enters Last-Minute Bid

Taxi Driver For Mayor?

We thought the November mayoral race couldn't get any wilder after Jeff Adachi's by-the-skin-of-his-teeth deadline bid on Friday night. We were wrong.

San Francisco cab driver Emil Lawrence also threw in a bid before the 5pm deadline, according to The Examiner. In order to run for mayor, candidates must either gather 10,096 signatures or collect 20 signatures and pay a fee of $5,048 –- Lawrence opted for the latter. Lawrence's addition to the ballot brings the total candidate count to 16.

According to SFist, Lawrence has been vocal about the alleged mistreatment of taxi drivers in the city and has been a frequent speaker at Board of Supervisors meetings to voice his concern.

Lawrence does not have a website or social media presence as of yet and the San Francisco Mayor 2011 Online Candidate Forum states that Lawrence has yet to accept their invitation.
