The news of topless "Blurred Lines" model Emily Ratajkowski being cast in the film version of "Gone Girl" raised a few eyebrows when announced on Monday. Ratajkowski will play Ben Affleck's mistress in the film, which is slated for a 2014 release. Her rise to fame feels remarkably swift, so we're going to assume the 22-year-old has unearthed the modern-day formula for Hollywood success.

The London-born Ratajkowski, who grew up in California, was signed to Ford Models at age 14. She continued modeling throughout high school and completed a year at UCLA before dropping out to pursue the business full time. In 2012, she appeared nude on the cover of Treats! Magazine (seen here).

Take a recurring role on a Nickelodeon series.
But before she graced the cover of Treats!, Ratajkowski donned a good-girl image on the Nickelodeon series "iCarly." She played Gibby's girlfriend Tasha.

Ratajkowski's wholesomeness didn't last long. Alongside fellow model Sara Jean Underwood, she brought her signature sensuality to a Carl's Jr. commercial in 2012.

Get naked in a popular music video.
Ratajkowski starred in Maroon 5's "Love Somebody" video, but it was the video for Robin Thicke's "Blurred Lines" that catapulted her to fame. She attracted controversy for appearing topless in the clip but remained unfazed by accusations of misogyny. Upon developing a buzzy presence in the media, Ratajkowski told Complex the video is "tasteful" and "beautiful." She told Esquire that "it's actually celebrating women and their bodies."

Conveniently enough, "Gone Girl" director David Fincher spotted Ratajkowski in the "Blurred Lines" video and recruited her to star as Ben Affleck's mistress in the thriller based on Gillian Flynn's best-selling novel. Really, it's as simple as that. The Oscar-nominated director even called the role "hotly contested" in Hollywood.
