Capitalists Are Environmentally Friendly

April is Earth Month. Let's celebrate everybody: the environmentalists and the capitalists who care about preserving and protecting our earth. And just maybe, Hollywood will start rolling out the red carpet for capitalism.

I am a true movie buff. I love all genres: comedy, horror, animated, anything. Bring it on with buttered popcorn and a Coke, and I'm there!

However, there is a one issue that really gets me worked up, and with April being Earth Month, I thought I would give this story line a starring role.

If you've seen any kids movies recently, or really any movies, you know that capitalists are bad. They are evil villains, looking to make a lot of money, and they will take down anybody or any tree in their way.

Take for example, last year's hit animated movie, The Lorax. A character named Once-ler is the "villain" of the movie. He had an invention, made a lot of money from it, and destroyed an entire civilization of brightly colored trees and cute little critters in the process. He even sang "How bad can I be? I'm growing the economy." Pure evil.

Hollywood loves to cast a capitalist in the starring role of villain, and the environment as the victim. This may be a big hit at the box office, but it doesn't work in the real world.

The environment needs capitalists. It needs people with money to help preserve and protect it. In a book I co-authored with my father, Your Teacher Said What, Trying to Raise a Fifth Grade Capitalist in Obama's America, we write about the positive impact that wealth and property rights have on the environment. When people are rich enough to own something, that's when they preserve and protect it. There's even a report, issued by the Heritage Foundation and the Wall Street Journal every year for the last 15 years that shows that the richer a nation gets, the stronger its environmental protections are.
