Will Eric Dane Die On 'Grey's Anatomy'?

Patrick Dempsey's Twitpics Hint Mark Sloane's Fate On 'Grey's'

After Eric Dane announced he was leaving "Grey's Anatomy" last week, fans who've been following the doctors of Seattle Grace wondered what his fate might be. Now McDreamy has given us some photographic evidence of McSteamy's future. (Possible spoilers ahead!)

On Monday, Patrick Dempsey, who plays Derek Shepherd, tweeted two photos from the "Grey's Anatomy" set of Dane as McSteamy a.k.a. Mark Sloane in a hospital bed with a tube down his throat. Though Dempsey has since removed the photos at ABC's request, take a peek at them here and here. In the second image, we see Dr. Callie Torres (Sara Ramirez) stitching up his right hand.

He also tweeted his thoughts on Dane's departure:

When "Grey's Anatomy" fans last saw Mark in the Season 8 finale, he was stuck in the forrest with Derek, Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo), Christina Yang (Sandra Oh) and Arizona Robbins (Jessica Capshaw), after a plane accident left them stranded and took the life of the woman Mark loved, Lexie Grey (Chyler Leigh).

"Grey's Anatomy" showrunner Shonda Rhimes told Entertainment Weekly that Dane would be in two episodes of Season 9. Rhimes also told EW that Dane's "imminent appearance should not necessarily be considered a nod to his fate on the show." Though she didn't hint much about what his character's exit would entail, Rhimes gave some details on what to expect at Seattle Grace when the series returns to ABC this fall.

"When we start the season, we are ahead enough in time where we see the outcome of lots of things. And in the second episode of the season, there's rewind -- we go backwards -- to where they're still in the forest," Rhimes told EW. "So you see what happened and in the next episode, you see how we get there."

"Grey's Anatomy" Season 9 is set to premiere on Thursday, September 27 at 9 p.m. ET on ABC.
