Despite a fierce defense from high-level members of the Obama administration, skeptical politicians have had no problem speaking out against the nuclear agreement with Iran. That is "disappointing" to U.S. Secretary of Energy Ernest Moniz, who was among the cabinet secretaries to brief the Senate Foreign Relations Committee on the deal last week.
During an interview with HuffPost Live on Monday, Moniz weighed in on the congressmen who have decried the proposition since before they knew specifics of the actual deal.
"I'm not going to question their motives, but of course it is disappointing, shall we say, when you have individuals who were critical of the agreement before they even saw the agreement," Moniz told host Alyona Minkovski.
He also discussed the progression of the deal from the talks in Lausanne, Switzerland, to the final negotiations in Vienna, explaining that, despite rhetoric from some politicians, Iran made numerous concessions since the Lausanne meetings concluded, back in April.
"Frankly, there were all sorts of statements being made in this country and in other countries that somehow in Vienna the store was being given away, when the reality was that the agreement in Vienna further strengthened the tentative agreement made in Lausanne," he said.
