Eunice Kariuki, Formerly Homeless Mother, Starts Orphanage In Kenya

Eunice Kariuki, a formerly homeless mother of two, experienced her share of struggles on the streets of Denver. Now, she's making sure other children don't have to endure the same.

Back in her home country of Kenya, she's founded an orphanage, 9news.com reports. Located in Nairobi, Tumaini Ministries now cares for 56 children and has over 1000 partners across the world.

"What I wanted to offer the children was hope," she told the news source. "So I came up with the name Tumaini, and Tumaini means hope."

Kariuki had moved to Denver to live with her cousin following a divorce, and three weeks to the day she got there, that cousin was killed in a car accident.

With nowhere else to turn, Kariuki got help from a Denver ministry that assisted her with rent and gave her a job, 9news.com reports.

"You know what a privilege it is to make a difference in the life of a child," Kariuki said.

"We are grateful," she added. "We are grateful."
