FasTrack Proprosal: Any Tax Increase Should Go To Unfunded Tracks

Some local government leaders say proceeds of any new FasTracks sales-tax increase approved by voters should be dedicated exclusively to building rail lines that are in danger of getting no money from the original 2004 FasTracks vote.

At a task-force meeting of the Metro Mayors Caucus on Monday, Aurora Mayor Ed Tauer said the Regional Transportation District's original plan for FasTracks -- to build six new train lines, three rail extensions and other transit elements by 2017 -- cannot work because it relies on cost and tax-revenue forecasting that looks ahead 25 years.
