WATCH: Franklin Project's 'Summit at Gettysburg'

At some point in the near future, national service will be a de rigueur rite of passage for 18-28 year olds. That is the hope, anyway, of The Franklin Project, an effort under the auspices of The Aspen Institute to ensure that every American has the opportunity to experience a fully paid service year, doing good and solving problems.

Officially launched in 2013 at the Aspen Ideas Festival, The Franklin Project is convening its own conference this week in historic Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. The Summit at Gettysburg starts today, and will feature opening remarks from General (Ret.) Stanley McChrystal (Chairman, Leadership Council of the Franklin Project), and a variety of topical panels moderated by, among others, Aspen Institute CEO Walter Isaacson, Clinton Foundation Vice Chair Chelsea Clinton, and CNN Senior Political Analyst David Gergen, and featuring panelists such as Global Health Corps CEO Barbara Bush, former Secretary of Transportation Ray LaHood and Franklin Project Co-Chairs Alan Khazei and John Bridgeland.
