Netflix is on a reboot kick: It brought back "Arrested Development," decided on a "Full House" reunion, announced a "Gilmore Girls" revival, and plans to bring "Arrested Development" back again.
Unfortunately for "Friends" fans, co-creator Marta Kauffman has not warmed to the idea of rebooting her beloved show. Speaking to Us Weekly at a Television Critics' Association tour in Pasadena, California, on Sunday, she called the series' continued popularity "shocking."
"Friends" ran for 10 highly rated seasons between 1994 and 2004, launching the careers of actors Jennifer Aniston, David Schwimmer, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matthew Perry and Matt LeBlanc. Kauffman, who co-created the series with David Crane, doesn't feel compelled to revisit that success, as busy as she is with her Netflix series "Grace and Frankie."
"I get to do [on 'Grace'] what I loved about 'Friends,' which is, make a show that's got some hope and joy to it and explore something completely new," Kauffman told Us. "That was about a certain time in your life, and I had just left [the] 'Friends' time of my life. This is about the time of my life I'm looking towards."
At least there's still the so-called "'Friends' reunion."
TVLine got fans' hopes way, way, up when it announced the cast would be reuniting to tape a two-hour special honoring veteran director James Burrows, who worked on their show in addition to "Cheers," "Frasier" and "The Big Bang Theory," later this month. As it turns out, Perry will be unable to join due to a scheduling conflict -- it'll be an almost-reunion. The special is slated to air Feb. 21 on NBC.
