From Wonk To Wow: Valerie Jarrett's Versatile Day-To-Night Style (PHOTOS)

Senior adviser Valerie Jarrett has known the Obamas since their Chicago days, and making the move to Washington also meant moving her wardrobe into the spotlight. Valerie usually slips under the radar with tailored suits, shawls and over-sized bags, as Robert Draper writes in his New York Times Magazine story on Jarrett.

She tends to dress elegantly, as if planning to head straight from the office to an evening event (which is often the case).

But Valerie also has to dress the part of any role, if necessary.

In the early months of the administration, she often stepped in to assist the understaffed Treasury secretary, Timothy Geithner, by communicating with jittery chief executives in the financial services sector. When Michelle Obama decided last month to beef up her first lady portfolio, Jarrett slid over to the East Wing to lend a hand.

She also organizes dinners, moderates town hall meetings, and made an appearance on "Sesame Street" with Michelle O. Check out Valerie's versatile style below:
