The rich may keep getting richer, but they're not showing their favored Presidential candidates any love. The country's wealthy Americans, as ranked by Forbes' annual list, remained fairly tight-fisted when it came to presidential campaign donations in the fourth quarter of 2007. Of the thirty wealthiest men (and women), only five individuals are confirmed by HuffPost's Fundrace data to have given cash to candidates. Namely, Bill Gates (Microsoft) sent $2,300 Barack Obama's way, Lawrence Ellison (Oracle) gave an ill-fated $2,300 to Rudy Giuliani, David Koch and Jack Taylor both gave Mitt Romney $2,300 and Charles Ergen (EchoStar) gave McCain $2,300 (plus another $2,300 for the general election). So no donations from the likes of Google boys Sergey Brin or Larry Page or Microsoft's Steven Ballmer.
Expanding into the top 50 doesn't help the list of givers expand much. Only three additional Q4 donors stand out: Viacom head honcho Sumner Redstone also gave $2,300 to Giuliani, Access Industries' Leonard Blavatnik gave $2,300 to Hillary Clinton and Christopher Dodd, and Cox Enterprises' James Kennedy added $2,300 to Romney's overall haul.
