Gerardo Marquez, California Teen, Finds And Returns $800 (WATCH)

He Found $800 On The Street, Then Did Something Surprising.. (VIDEO)

If you found an envelope on the ground stuffed with cash, what would you do? La Habra, California teen Gerardo Marquez was faced with this dilemma recently when he happened across $800 -- and he decided to return the money to its rightful owner, CBS News reports.

The 18-year-old good samaritan was going out for pizza with his friends on a Friday night when he stepped on an envelope filled with money. When he called the police to turn in the money, they were surprised at his decision.

"The cop was actually surprised," Marquez told CBS News. "He was like, 'We really don't get calls like this much, especially teenagers.' I guess that's what surprised him the most."

According to CBS, it was revealed soon afterwards that the manager of a local cell phone store had dropped the money on his way to deposit it in the bank. He offered Marquez a $100 reward for his good deed.

Marquez is the latest in a series of young people who have made headlines for doing the right thing. In July, a 14-year-old in Montana returned a wallet that had over $700 inside. And this September, when 16-year-old Rafi Razzaque from Newton, Massachusetts found a wallet containing nearly $1,000 in cash, he decided to return it to its rightful owner. The teen told NBC 7 News: “It's not right of me to take it, it's none of my business. I didn't earn that."
