After successful infiltrating the streets of San Francisco, Google is setting its sights on a new target: the sky.
Google cofounders are in talks to build a $82 million facility for executives at the Mineta San Jose International Airport. The airport recently announced plans to award a 50-year lease to Signature Flight Support.
British-based firm Signature Aviation hopes to construct a terminal to accommodate "the largest business jets," for Google.
The recommendation was determined by an evaluation panel at the San Jose airport. Officials considered and scored three proposals. Signature's plan received 991 points out of the possible 1,000.
Signature hopes to invest $82 million to develop a facility stretching 29 acres. The space will include an executive terminal, ramps to accommodate large business jets and retail spaces. The location is in close proximity to Google's Mountain View head quarters.
Signature Flights is the largest fix based operation in the world. The company runs facilities in airport in cities such as San Francisco, Palm Springs and Chicago.
“We’re pleased that the evaluation process for the development of Mineta San José International Airport’s West Side is now complete, Director of Aviation Bill Sherry said in a press release. "The recommended outcome will prove to be incredibly prosperous for SJC, the City of San José, and Silicon Valley."
