Greg Devers, Manvel High School Basketball Coach, Attacked By Fan After Game (VIDEO)

High School Basketball Coach Attacked By Fan

In what seems to be becoming an all too common occurrence, violence broke out at the conclusion of a high school sports contest over the weekend. Following his team's 60-45 victory over LaMarque High School (Texas), Manvel High School boys basketball coach Greg Devers took a punch to the face from an unruly fan after the teams exchanged handshakes.

"It looked like it was a left hook from Mike Tyson," Alvin ISD athletic director Mike Bass told KTRK in Houston. "I mean he really took a pretty good shiner on him and it swelled him up pretty good, but he’s going to be OK."

LaMarque ISD issued the following statement on Monday evening in response to the incident:

As a district, we don't tolerate that from our fans or students. We are conducting a thorough investigation to get to the bottom of it. Once we know all the particulars, we will administer discipline accordingly.

Unfortunately this isn't the only recent instance of fan violence marring a high school game. In South Carolina, two players were reportedly beaten up for Tebowing after big win over a rival high school within the past week. Just last month, a high school basketball game in Baltimore turned ugly when fans began brawling with players in the middle of the contest.

In late 2010, a Desoto County (Fla.) high school player attacked a referee after getting a technical foul resulting in an ejection.
