Dudes Say 'I Love You' To Their Friends, Kicking Societal Gender Norms Right In The Face

Dudes Tell Their Friends 'I Love You;' Create A New Bro Code

It's not exactly in a man's bro code to say "I love you" to male friends all the time.

Perhaps that's because of constructed societal standards that suggest expressing affection makes a man weak, knocking them out of the coveted "manly" category.

"I guess I do think it's weird to say 'I love you' to my guy friends, because I've never said 'I love you' to any of my guy friends," explains a guy named Sean in the video above. But female interviewee Maycie says she tells her friends she loves them pretty much every time she talks to them.

The folks at BuzzFeed decided to kick these gender standards in the virtual face by having guys say "I love you" to their friends for the first time, on camera.

Though some of the interactions were a little awkward, it's safe to say no one's manhood was challenged in the process.

"Take that heteronormativity!" says BuzzFeed producer Henry Goldman. "We got no problem. We're the new 21st century American males."
