Harnessing The Power Of Poop (VIDEO)

While disaster-ridden Haiti may be short on resources, the resourcefulness of group leaders in coming up with new forms of energy is admirable in Port-au-Prince's Kay Nou camp. One resource that typically goes to waste has proven to be invaluable to the camp: poop. The camp is luckier than most in that it's equipped with a toilet and biodigester, which converts the residents' excrement into biogas, water and fertilizer, Reuters' Rob Muir reported.

The results have clearly been positive. The waste from a family of five can produce an hour of biogas, enough to cook a meal, which will produce more waste, and in turn more power, Muir said.
