'Hatfields & McCoys' Finale: 'Devil' Anse Hatfield Wants To End The Feud Peacefully

The concluding part of the "Hatfields & McCoys" (Wed., 9 p.m. ET on History) miniseries saw the feuding families come to some sort of a settlement.

Hatfield patriarch "Devil" Anse Hatfield (Kevin Costner) had grown tired of the constant enmity and said, "I do not wish to keep the old feud alive."

He added, "The war spirit in me has evaded, and I sincerely rejoice at the prospect of peace."

However, there was still more tragedy in store: Ellison "Cotton Top" Mount was sentenced to be hanged for killing Alifair McCoy. As he took to the gallows, Cotton Top declared, "The Hatfields made me do it! They hornswoggled me with love!"

In the end, the two clans only came to a final truce over 100 years later, when they both signed a symbolic peace treaty in 2003.
