The Surprising Reason Some People Can’t Help Being Debbie Downer

It turns out that our genes play a significant role.

We all know that some people see a glass of water as half-full, while others see the same glass as half-empty. But why? According to a fascinating new video (above) from the YouTube series ASAPScience, it's at least partly a matter of heredity.

"It seems that people may be genetically susceptible to pessimism," Mitchell Moffit, co-creator of the series, says in the video. "But statistically, most of us are hardwired to lean towards optimism."
