Former Governor Mitt Romney (R-MA) says that he is only going to release two years of his tax returns. President Obama has released his returns since 2000 and Vice President Biden has released his returns since 1998.
Claiming that his 2011 returns are not finished yet, Romney is going to release them on or about October 15th, the last day they are due at the IRS.
But, why wait?
Why not just release the already-prepared 2009 returns? That would still make it two, and we would not have to wait until right before the election.
Indeed, we -- and all Republican poobahs -- could see your second return, 2009, before the convention. Do you not owe that to your own party at least as much as Todd Akin (R-MO) should have listened to you and dropped out?
While you are at it, why not complete the disclosure of the 2010 return, and include your Foreign Bank and Financial Account ("FBAR") forms that you filed with the IRS in that year?
Then, you would have disclosed two completed returns.
Speaking on behalf of the American people, or at least the 63% of us that are "small-minded," we would rather have your 2009 returns today than your 2011 returns on October 15th. In fact, we would rather have your 2009 returns rather than the 2011 returns anyhow.
Or, is there some reason you do not want us to see 2009?
