Homemade Explosive Detonates, Killing One In Louisiana

A 19-year-old Louisiana man was killed and a 17-year-old was injured after a homemade explosive exploded unexpectedly.

The two teens, both of Pearl River, were constructing the device on Sunday night when it blew up, according to FOX 8.

A neighbor heard the explosion at about 7:30 p.m. and called police, who found the unidentified 19-year-old dead on the ground near the device. The 17-year-old boy was transported to an area hospital. His condition is unknown.

The St. Tammy Parish sheriff's hazard unit examined the device, though its exact composition hasn't been released. WWL-TV reports that the device was basic and not intended to be transported for malicious purposes.

The sheriff's department is still investigating the scene. It's yet unclear what the explosive would be used for.

The teens were not identified.
