One patient at Providence St. Vincent Medical Center in Portland, Ore. wore something other than a hospital gown the day before her surgery.
Jamie Amos said "I do" to long-time boyfriend Jonathan Tafoya Tuesday in a ceremony at the hospital before she went under the knife to remove a cancerous, golf ball-sized tumor in her brain, The Oregonian reports
The pair talked about tying the knot in the past, but had never decided when or where to do it. When Amos scheduled her surgery for Wednesday, August 1, she decided the time was right.
"I wanted to go into the surgery and come out to my husband," she told The Oregonian. "He could be my strength."
Hospital workers volunteered to style Amos's hair and play the harp. Others pitched in too; her family baked a cake, the gift shop provided flowers and David's Bridal loaned a dress.
Prior to Amos's brain surgery, the couple faced other serious issues; Amos experienced colon cancer, endometriosis and a neurological disorder called transverse myelitis, and Tafoya had a serious car crash, stomach ailments and a liver condition. Through it all, they remained together.
Hospital chapels and courtyards have played host to many patient weddings. In January, another brain cancer patient was married in the hospital while undergoing treatment.
