Viewers got to see more of the "Mother" this week on "How I Met Your Mother." It was the aftermath of Robin and Barney's engagement, and that meant a visit from Robin's terrifying father, played by Ray Wise, and it also meant that Ted had to come to grips with the fact that Robin would never be his.
Lily helped him admit he was upset by their engagement when she confessed that sometimes she wishes she wasn't a mom -- who remembers her passion for art?
As compensation, Ted tried to control the wedding planning, insisting on a DJ over a live band. But it was in giving up control that the stage was set for him to at least see the mother. Remember that they would apparently meet later that night on the train platform.
At the last minute, four months from now, the band cancelled on Robin and Barney. A fortuitous train meeting with Cindy (Rachel Bilson) saw her come up with the solution. Her ex-roommate -- the mother -- was the bass player in a band. The gig was booked and fate draws Ted and the titular "Mother" ever closer.
