How To Breastfeed: Tips, Resources (VIDEO)

August is National Breastfeeding Month and it's worth taking a look at breastfeeding tips and resources to help you out.

Breastfeeding can be extremely intimidating, especially for first-time mothers but even for veterans.

"It's not easy," says Carley Roney, editor-in-chief of TheBump.com. "You think it's natural. But getting the baby to latch on in the first place is not easy, controlling your milk supply is not easy. I've had three children and it wasn't easy any of the times."

Roney says a survey found that 50 percent of mothers admit to challenges breastfeeding and 90 percent had to consult someone, and that's OK. In fact, she encourages mothers to reach out to others.

There are numerous places on the Web to find advice. Baby Center has an easy how-to for getting started, stressing if it doesn't feel right when the baby latches on, try again. Mama's Health has a piece called "Breastfeeding Basics 101" for best practices, including begin breastfeeding as soon as possible after the baby is born.
