How To Wear A Bralette Without Showing Too Much Skin (PHOTOS)

Lessons For A Modern Day Lady: The Bralette

Underwear as outerwear has long been a tricky fashion subject. The question of how much skin is too much skin will almost always arise when trying out a tight corset or sheer chemise outside of the bedroom. However, this spring has brought back the retro bralette, otherwise known as the perfect cross between a bra and a crop top. It's been seen on the runways of Miu Miu, Nina Ricci and Proenza Schouler, and been worn by celebrities like Miley Cyrus, Rihanna and Solange Knowles. The bralette, made famous by voluptuous pin up girls of the '40s and '50s, is an adorable (and surprisingly versatile) top to try on this season. Before you do though, remember to keep these few tips in mind:

1. A printed bralette looks less like a regular bra, and therefore, wearing it is an easy way to translate the look into your wardrobe. Wear it with high waisted pants and neutral blazer for a fun take on daytime dressing.

2. A long pencil skirt, worn high on the waist with a lacy or colorful bralette on top makes for just the right amount of skin showing in the middle.

3. A sleek belt, when worn with a full skirt or a pair of shorts (again, pulled up high so not too much middle shows), accentuates that great shape given by the ensemble.

4. If you're wearing a lace bralette, don't do lace on the bottom -- it will look like you walked out of the house in lingerie.

The Betty Grable-esque bralette is definitely back in business, and it's one piece straight off the runways that's just as easy to buy now straight off the racks. So how about it -- will you wear this cropped top for spring?
