Huckabee: Shutdown A 'Stupid Tactical Blunder' For Republicans

Radio host and former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee (R) lambasted Republicans on his show Monday for bringing on the government shutdown over their opposition to Obamacare.

Huckabee hit the GOP during an interview with Ralph Nader, after the consumer advocate and former presidential candidate brought up the recent Republican effort to defund the Affordable Care Act.

"I thought it was a stupid tactical blunder on the part of the Republicans," Huckabee said. "I think it's doing a lot of damage -- first to the country, and frankly to the Republicans."

But Huckabee was also quick to criticize President Barack Obama's handling of the shutdown -- particularly the president's refusal to negotiate with congressional Republicans on the need to raise the nation's borrowing limit until they pass a continuing resolution to open the government.

"You don't go out and make a bunch of speeches and demonize these guys," Huckabee said, referring to Obama's criticism of Republicans. "You have to just sort of let them vent, do their thing, and then you bring them in and you sit down and with a reasonable tone of voice you say: Now guys, you've had your fun, you made your point, now let's figure out what we're going to do to make this work."
