Let me see if I have this straight: Congress summons bank executives to complain they aren't lending enough money -- since taxpayers have bailed the banks out the executives have to listen -- the reason the banks needed to be bailed out was that they lent money to people who couldn't pay them back. (I say this as a person who was recently denied a mortgage -- or was I rejected by that pesky co-op board -- no matter.)
The entire effort by the Obama Administration to resuscitate the American economy comprises artificial life support, since us Americans are no longer energetic, enterprising, and creative enough to generate sufficient economic activity on our own. We want all the accoutrements of a prosperous lifestyle -- and we don't want to have to work too hard, sacrifice too much, or take any chances to obtain these benefits for ourselves and our kids.
Gimme what I want, or I'll hate you and vote for other people who will lie to me!
Since states can no longer afford the services they provide -- even as they raise property taxes to dizzying levels -- because they can't have unbalanced budgets, they want the feds to give them money the U.S. doesn't have to fund their needs. Let me see if I have this straight -- people in the states can't afford these things, but people in the United States can!
Loved that movie by Michael Moore -- you know, the one about how everyone should have all the best medical care. And insurance companies -- no, make that the government -- should pay for it. See, that way we can all have what we want for nothing! It's so simple, I can't believe politicians don't get it.
Here's my brief history of the United States since Ronald Reagan was president. Reagan said we can all have what we want -- the American dream, I believe it's called -- damn environmental and economic constraints. (He beat out that horrid little man who wore a sweater in the oval office to show us we needed to turn the thermostat down -- brrrrr! -- the memory of it makes me shiver.)
Then there was that Democratic guy -- you know, the one who wanted a righteous wife, sex on the side, and to go to church once in a while to be sanctified (sounds like a banking executive or a Republican, come to think of it) -- who gave us everything we wanted. But he was followed by that nitwit who thought if he gave us everything we wanted, and lowered our taxes, everyone would live happily ever after (sounds like the Democrats, come to think of it).
And here we are -- stuck in the mud -- using more than we produce, spending more than we earn, borrowing more than we sell overseas -- we need, need, need. And, damn it, if our politicians can't pull that magic trick off, we'll find another set who say they can, and so on and so on.
