Ice-T Says 'Rap Put Obama In The Presidency' & 'Hip-Hop Is What Brought Us Together' (VIDEO)

WATCH: Ice-T Explains Why Obama Was Elected

Rapper, actor and Coco Austin-lover Ice-T has a simple explanation for why America elected its first black president: rap music.

In an appearance on the fourth hour of "The Today Show," Ice claimed that "rap put Obama in the presidency" by creating a climate in which such a historic development was possible. "If it wasn't for rap, white people wouldn't have been so open to vote for somebody like Barack Obama," he added.

When host Kathie Lee Gifford countered that Obama simply won because he was a good candidate, Ice stood his ground. "That had to happen after their eyes were opened up, and hip-hop is what brought us together," he said.

Ice was on air to promote "Something From Nothing: The Art Of Rap," a documentary featuring an impressive slate of hip hop and rap luminaries discussing the origins of their craft. The film debuts this Friday.
