'Wolf Of Bedford Falls' Imagines George Bailey As A Wall Street Sociopath

If George Bailey Was The 'Wolf Of Wall Street'

Everyone thinks of "It's a Wonderful Life" as a Christmas movie, but it's easy to forget that only the last half hour or so of the movie takes place at Christmas. Most of the movie revolves around the classic American struggle of doing what's right versus what will make you rich, as exemplified by two bankers, the kindhearted George Bailey and the cynical Mr. Potter.

Martin Scorsese's divisive new film "The Wolf of Wall Street" examines the same dichotomy, from a very different angle. Some have criticized the movie as a celebration of the kind of excess that's been seen in the finance world since roughly the 1980s that celebrate the kind of values seen in "It's a Wonderful Life's" nightmareish Pottersville, the hedonistic playground intended to distract from its participants' low income and flexible morals.

To prove that not much has changed between 1946 and 2013, YouTuber Owen Weber mashed up the trailer for "The Wolf of Wall Street" and footage from "It's a Wonderful Life" to retell the story of George Bailey selling out to become a Mr. Potter/Jordan Belfort type. Check out the well-executed recut above.
